ABSTRACT Religious tolerance is the universal rule for societies tol ive together. There are two main areas of religious tolerance. The first is social religious tolerance as a sociological phenomenon. The second is about the place of the state in social life. The dominant ideology’s refusal to accept the different has led to the problem of religious tolerance. This problem arises from the state’s attempt to shape communities that believe in different interpretations of religion in line with its own ideology. Tolerance pointed to the importance given to human rights by the three holy religions. Differences in religious thought among people do not prevent them from living together. Perhaps the authenticity of sacred religions is based on this basic notion that religion is not just an invitation. The invitation to seize power in the name of religion is a social and political movement. It is necessary to discuss without confusing the invitations made to establish a religious state with the call for religious tolerance. The subject of this article is about the problem of state control of religion. Liberal Enlightenment thought that sprouted in Europe has also passed to the Islamic world. The idea of modernisation and reformation of the tyrannical governments came to the fore. In the study, it is aimed to create a healthy awareness by discussing the problem on the axis of religion-politics.
