Abstract

In Turkish, verbs are the constituents and the main part of sentences. Verbs contain many of the information they reflect in the production of sentences in the mental lexicon. All sentences must have a verb, and while certain information contains all verbs, others can vary from verb to verb. Many syntactic information such as whether a verb will be added to a sentence and the states and roles taken by the nouns in a sentence may vary based on verbs. In addition to these, the information regarding the referential or signified meaning of verbs is also present in our vocabulary. The said meaning also contains actional or even aspectual information regarding the suitable type of event for the verb and how the event will be conveyed as a core unit. The voices that can be attributed to verbs are determined based on the verb's features in the dictionary or lexicon, which are to be used in the sentence. In short, the type and features of the verb are very important in terms of voice assignment possibilities . In the present study, descriptions and analyzes were made on the type of verbs that can be reciprocalized on the reciprocal voice. These descriptions and analyzes were limited to the affix {-(I)ş-}, which are added to verb bases. In this context, the affix {-lAş-}, which can produce reciprocal verbs from noun bases, and reciprocal sentences that are transferred with pronouns were excluded from the study. The reason for this limitation is to be able to observe reciprocalization possibilities based on simple verb bases. As a result of the study, it was observed that the thematic roles attributed to the actional and aspectual potential of the verb, which is reflected on the sentence, the event situations for which they can form a core clause and what type of features they can reflect in terms of meaning were determinant factors in terms of being a reciprocal voice. It was also examined what types of pragmatic functions can be reflected by the verbs that can be made reciprocal in certain situations through the clauses they form. Verb classifications were also referred to, considering the semantic features of the verbs included in the present study.
