Abstract

In this research, the work "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer and the works of the artists who appropriated and reproduced this work were examined and interpreted. In addition, the aesthetic relationship and the art of appropriation in the works that are in a relationship between pictures are examined. In this direction, the concepts of "portrait" and "popular", which are the common themes of the works, have been tried to be explained within the framework of the cultural object. In these studies, in which samples of the works of artists who produced works in different styles from different periods were selected, the current interpretations of the work "Girl with a Pearl Earring" were examined. In addition, in this study, the researches on the subject were examined and information was given about the formation processes of the works, and the traces of appropriation were tried to be revealed by making formal examinations of the works. As a result, inter-picture interactions and transferences, which have made a name for themselves in every period with their reinterpretation, have been determined. The work named “Girl with a Pearl Earring” inspired not only painting but also literature and cinema. In this case, when the work is evaluated in terms of relational aesthetics that it establishes with different disciplines, it is seen that it can also be considered in the context of inter-signatures. It is foreseen that the formal analyzes in the works reproduced with the art of appropriation can contribute to the literature.
