Abstract

In this study, the works produced by the famous American architect Frank Gehry, who uses material and forms in an innovative manner, affecting the architecture of the 21st century, are considered in terms of structure, material and design relation. The wide openings that Gehry designed and the works that came together with the different forms, draw attention to the environmental and physical characteristics of the designed area, its function, its spatial arrangement, its structure. In particular, the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum, which is the culmination of a different form and technological search, has been evaluated in detail. The effects of Gehry's work on architectural students who used structure and building material as a genius were investigated by a questionnaire study that was open-ended and interpretive. With the data obtained, the students have difficulties in interpretation, expression and expressing their own ideas of architectural design. In addition, Gehry's work has a flawless carrier system, and the integration of the material and the carrier system can still cause "aesthetic" feelings; it can also be seen that some people feel "complexity".
