Abstract

Education has been important in raising individuals in various ways since the beginning of human history. According to time, the first education starting from the family took place in different ways in religious institutions, state institutions and art. Education has taken its place among the main duties of the state in the nation states and constitutional state systems in the world. The modern educational institutions and teacher training cycle, which started with the Tanzimat Period of the Ottoman Empire, continued increasingly during the Constitutional Period. In the nation-state model of the Republic of Turkey, great importance was attached to education in order to develop the nation. Increasing the literacy rate in the country, increasing the schooling rate at all levels, transitioning to co-education, and developing rural areas were among the important targets. In this research, the historical development of education, literacy rate, the number of schools and students, the number of students per school and teacher, and the developments in the field of education in Tunceli during the republican period in Turkey were investigated. In the research, the education level in the province was determined by comparing the education indicators in Tunceli in the Republican Period with the average of Turkey. The study was carried out using State Institute of Statistics and TUIK data, SPO data and Ministry of National Education statistics.
