Abstract

Active citizenship values vary by societies. This study is a qualitative research on the teaching of Social Identity Teacher candidates about the values of active citizenship and the regulation of these values. The study is action research model. Study group are second year of social science teacher candidates in the state university. Lessons; It was planned as Recognition, Implementation and Routing Session and lasted for 9 weeks. In order to determine how the values are shaped, 3 rd grade students of Social Studies Teacher were evaluated in the presence of volunteer 4 male and 1 female students. This session was given the name of the Evaluation Session. The lectures were recorded by video camera, transcripted by the researcher at the end of each lesson and content analysis. content analysis, democratic values were found to be the main theme. As sub-themes in this theme; participation in elections, sensitivity to social problems, freedom of expression, respect for different opinions, conflict and tolerance. Critical thinking skills have been used to make up for the shortcomings of participants' value. The themes found differed in the Evaluation Session. It is believed that this change depends on showing the skills of the participants. Participants of the missing are thought to arise from the value of active citizenship citizenship in Turkey.
