The 1970s was a period in which the search for experimentation and innovation increased in the American theatre and art world, and artistic changes were experienced in parallel with the sociological developments of those years. In this period, works that challenged traditional narrative structures and dealt with social issues gained popularity. David Alan Mamet stands out as one of the important writers of this period. Mamet, who combines plays involving social events with the synthesis of traditional realist and absurdist theatre and writes in a pessimistic style, is distinguished from other writers by his skilful use of colloquial language in his works. This study aims to examine and analyse the relationship between theatre and reality in Mamet's play “A Life in the Theatre” by examining the relationship between theatre and reality with Goffman's dramaturgical analysis approach and to examine and analyse the metatheatrical structure, acting method, language and narrative aspect in depth.
