Abstract

The space and their users are in a mutual interaction. While the space affects the behavior and mood of users with its possibilities and limitations, the users also affect the spaces in line with their culture and personality characteristics. As a result of the correct establishment of this interaction, the person finds the opportunity to self-fulfill of the space. The spaces where effect of self-particification, that is, personalization through shaping, can be seen mostly clearly are the owned dwellings; because what is voluntarily owned is accepted, adopted and personified. In terms of time consumed at home and physical and emotional relationships with the home, women are very different point from men. The house of different woman, who has gone through different experiences even within a certain culture, has its own behavioral patterns. Women transform the house in a way that reflects identity and personality characteristics, and in case not happen, the adaptation process of the space inhabited becomes unhealthy and the satisfaction felt about the space decreases. In this study, the behavior of women in appropriation was examined over six residences actively used by their owners in Giresun Zeytinlik District, which is a first-degree urban protected area. Comparing original and existing plans, changes that have been made and changing behavior patterns identified, and with the questionnaire study applied to the user women and the observations made, with the survey study applied to the user women and the observations made, the home appropriation criteria were investigated. It has been observed that women living today in these houses, which were built under very different conditions and as a result of different needs, were the ones who achieved the most spatial satisfaction.
