Abstract

The aim of this research is to present to what extent the relation between music teacher trainees’ self-perception and self-respect is reflected on their self-perception towards the instrument, and find out whether there is a significant relation between music teacher trainees’ self-respect and their self-perception towards the instrument. Study group consists of 46 students in total from the department of music at Ondokuz Mayıs University. Short Form of Coopersmith Self-Respect Inventory and Instrument Oriented Self-Perception Scale are used as data collection tools. According to the results of the study, the relation between music teacher trainees’ self-respect and their self-perception towards the instrument does not differ according to gender, the income of the family and the type of the instrument; however, it is seen that the rate is a little bit higher for female students compared to males. Additionally, research results indicate that there is a statistically significant relation between music teacher trainees’ self-perception towards the instrument and their self-respect
