The geographical location in which you have located the Lycia region in the southwestern part of Turkey, topography, has been the natural environment characteristics and the focus of attention in the choice of the place of establishment of settlements from ancient times with a variety of economic activities it provides. There are a total of 55 ancient cities in the region of Lycia that were founded in antiquity and have survived to the present. In this study, it was aimed to reveal the reasons for choosing the ancient cities established in Lycia region as settlements considering the morphology, climate, human and economic characteristics. The ancient cities established in the region of Lycia have expanded their hinterland areas depending on their location and felt the need to identify sheltered areas against any attacks from the outside. Each antique city in the region has expanded its trade area and made a division of labor at a certain level, depending on the economic activities it has performed around it. As a result; The ancient cities established in the region of Lycia have come to the forefront with the features provided by the fertile plains, gulfs, sheltered harbors and the diversity of economic activities. Thanks to the possibilities of these properties, it has developed and brightened but has lost its significance over time due to changing geographical conditions and has been destroyed.
