Experimental Ex Libris Workshop

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the ex-libris works produced within the scope of the Experimental Ex-Libris Workshop in terms of the suitability of the waste materials used for original printmaking techniques and their contributions to visual expression. During the workshop, waste materials with different characteristics generated from original printmaking practices were experimentally incorporated as printing matrices and auxiliary surface elements. The effects of these materials on texture, surface character, print impressions, and technical applications were examined through the works produced during the workshop.

The findings indicate that, unlike conventional printmaking surfaces, waste materials generate unpredictable marks, layered textures, and distinctive surface effects. The interaction between the physical properties of the materials and the printing techniques employed played a significant role in the construction of compositions and visual narratives, while also enabling diverse aesthetic outcomes in each application. The ex-libris works produced at the end of the workshop demonstrate the adaptability of waste materials to original printmaking processes and reveal the potential of experimental practices to facilitate unique, creative, and diverse artistic productions.

In conclusion, repurposed waste materials can be considered significant design components in experimental ex-libris production, as they enhance technical diversity, expand the possibilities of visual expression, and support original artistic production.
